Japanese Grilled Meat on Rice


Pan grilled beef served in a spicy soy sauce dressing.

INGREDIENTS

2 tbsp cooking wine
6 tbsp Japanese soy sauce
6 tbsp apple sauce
1 ½ tbsp sugar
1 tbsp S&B Wasabi Paste 43g
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 clove garlic, minced
500g beef steak, sliced
Black pepper, ground
1 tbsp vegetable oil
2 cups cooked rice
Roasted white sesame seeds
Spring onions, thinly sliced, as garnish

METHOD

  1. To make the Wasabi Yakiniku sauce, bring cooking wine to the boil. Remove from heat. Add in soy sauce, apple sauce, sugar, S&B Wasabi Paste, sesame oil and garlic. Whisk well, set aside.

  2. Sprinkle beef with pepper. Heat oil in frying pan over high heat, brown both sides of beef. Add Wasabi Yakiniku Sauce, toss well and cook through. Remove from heat.

  3. Place beef over the rice, top with remaining sauce. Garnish with roasted sesame seeds and spring onions.
